Colour variations in refined products indicate impurities and/or the presence of water. The Kam Colorimeter/Haze Analyzer (KAM CHA), is the ideal solution for monitoring both the colour of refined products and the presence of haze (trace water) in pipelines following the refining process. The simplicity of design employed in the KAM CHA mean there are no moving parts. Using LED light sources ensures long-term, stable performance with limited maintenance and power requirements. In addition, locating the electronics in an explosion proof enclosure on the probe itself creates a compact design providing further flexibility during installation.

The five LED sources (red, blue, green, yellow and IR), send light via fibre optics to the sensor tip which is inserted into the pipeline or analyzer loop. These beams of light pass through the fluid in the pipeline and are refracted back and then analyzed by the electronics. Here a detection unit then processes the received light information and produces an optical signature. This optical signature determines the exact colour and haze values of the fluid in the pipeline.

This measurement is instantaneous and requires no operator input or maintenance. The (4 to 20)mA output signal produced can be interfaced simply with any proprietary control system. Installation can be easily achieved without having to drain the pipeline and the unit can be removed and replaced easily if required as the KAM CHA is retractable.
