The Kam Optical Interface Detector (KAM OID), is the perfect instrument to measure product interface and monitor pipeline transmix, reducing contamination and downgraded fuels regardless of its density. The simplicity of design and quality of engineering employed in the KAM OID mean there are no moving parts. Fiber optics within the patented optical probe respond to the absorption, fluorescence, and refractive properties of the fluid which is turned into an analog signal, or optical signature. The signal output can then be sent to the SCADA, PLC or DCS system for monitoring and control.
Placing a preview KAM OID sensor upstream (typically 1 to 2 km before the tank farm / terminal) and the second KAM OID at the receiving tank farm / terminal gives the operator a preview of the profile of the inbound interface or transmix. The operator can then decide / calculate when they would like to make the most advantageous cut.
The KAM OID sensor can be installed either in an analyzer loop or directly in to the main pipeline. When installed in the main pipeline, it can be easily mounted through a ball valve, this allows you to insert or re-tract the probe without having to drain or shut down the pipeline. Therefore, the KAM OID facilitates a low cost and simple installation.
